The Alden Bryan Memorial Medal will be given for The Best in Show

 and cash prizes will be awarded at the opening reception, Sunday, July 13, 2008

1st Prize / Best in Show:  $1,000 cash prize

2nd Prize:  $   500 cash prize

 3rd Prize:   $   250 cash prize.

Subject:            Vermont and New England landscape paintings.

Schedule:         Friday, April 25:                Jurying Package – including slides, fees and other materials – must                                                                       be received by the Bryan Memorial Gallery on or before this date.

                           Tuesday, May 6:                Post cards will be mailed to all artists submitting work, informing them                                                                        of the jurors’ final decision on what work will and will not be included in                                                                        this exhibition.                                                                       

                           May 7 – June 30:              All artwork for this show must be shipped or delivered to the                                                                                         Bryan Memorial Gallery                                                                                                                                          

                            Friday, July 11:                  Exhibit opens to the public.

                            Sunday, July 13:                Reception and Awarding of prizes 3 – 5 PM.

                            Sunday, September 21:    Final day of the exhibition.

Fees:                $25 non-refundable application fee must accompany your submission.  If your work is juried into the exhibition, you must join the Bryan Memorial Gallery ($30 artist membership) and/or be a current member of Bryan Memorial Gallery.   Your Bryan Gallery membership also makes you eligible to submit work for consideration in other exhibitions at Bryan Memorial Gallery.  Your check should be made payable to Bryan Memorial Gallery.

Bryan Memorial Gallery / Land and Light 2008 Juried Exhibition / Entry Specifications

ELIGIBILITY:  All artists working in two dimensions are eligible to submit an application to this exhibition.  If your work is accepted by the jury, you must be or become a member of Bryan Memorial Gallery to have your work exhibited in LAND AND LIGHT.  If you have been a recent member of Bryan Memorial Gallery, but your membership is not current, a Membership form is included with these specifications (or can be found on the gallery’s website:  www.bryangallery.org, click on “Join.”) All works must be available for sale, and must not have been exhibited at Bryan Memorial Gallery previously.

MEDIUM:  Only original two-dimensional paintings, conceived and created by the entrant, will be considered.  Photographs, sculpture, digital or computer generated artwork will not be considered for this exhibition. 

HOW TO ENTER:        All entries must be presented as 35 mm slides accompanied by an Official Entry Form or facsimile.  Odd sized glass or metal slide frames will not be accepted.   Applications should include 3 slides of the paintings you would submit for the exhibition itself.  Mail completed packet to Bryan Memorial Gallery, PO Box 340, Jeffersonville, VT 05464.  For information on how to transfer digital images to slides, go to www.slides.com.    (OVER)

JURY PROCESS:        In early May 2008, a jury of three nationally acclaimed artist jurors, will review each artist’s slides and select the artists to be included in the 2008 Land and Light Exhibition. 

PREPARING YOUR SLIDES:  Slides must be labeled, individually and legibly.  Do not tape slides together.  Each submitted slide must include the following information (see diagram below).  If you wish to have your slides returned, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.  Otherwise, the Gallery will not be responsible for the return of your slides. 

A.  The front is the side that faces you when you hold it up to the light to be viewed.  Note the medium and image dimensions in inches (H x W,) the title, and the top direction. 

B.  On the back, write your name, address and phone number.  Improperly marked slides will be disqualified.   

INSURANCE:  Each artist understands and agrees that insurance by The Bryan Gallery is not available for either jurying materials or artwork.  All risks of loss or damage at the gallery or in transit will be borne by the artist.

NUMBER OF PAINTINGS:  Each artist whose work is juried into this exhibition will be notified as to which pieces to submit to the gallery.  Paintings must be received by The Bryan Gallery on or before Friday, June 30, 2008.

DELIVERING PAINTINGS TO THE GALLERY:  If your work is juried into the exhibition,    your paintings must be delivered to the gallery on or before June 30, 2008.  You may deliver them in person or you may ship them to the Gallery (at your own expense.) 

SALES AND COMMISSIONS:  If your work is juried into this exhibition and is sold during the exhibition, the Gallery’s commission will be 40% of the retail price you have designated or later approved before sale.  At season’s end, unsold paintings will be returned to you at your own expense.

EXHIBITION DATES:  Accepted artists must agree to leave their paintings at Bryan Memorial Gallery for the duration of the exhibition.

RETURNING UNSOLD PAINTINGS AT SEASON’S END:  After the exhibition, any unsold paintings will be returned to you.  You may pick them up in person at the Gallery or we will ship them back to you at your own expense.
